BECOME A ‘FRIEND OF PFBC’

The ‘Friends of PFBC’ has been established as an entity to support the aims, goals and objectives of Poole Flying Boats Celebration which as a UK Charity (No. 1123274) is a not-for-profit organisation.

The Trustees of PFBC believe that this would bring together people within locality, and from around the UK as well as from further away - who are interested in the History of Flying Boats & Seaplanes, with their relationships to the Poole & Bournemouth area, which spanned a time from their invention (inc. the Schneider Trophy) right through to the last remnants which were dismantled at Hamworthy.

It involved the relocation to Poole Harbour in WW2 of the Flying Boat Fleet of Imperial Airways Ltd. and the subsequent formation and operation of BOAC throughout the war years into the postwar era.

Also, the Seaplanes of Fleet Air Arm as HMS Daedalus II stationed at RNAS Sandbanks from 1940, and in 1942 the formation of RAF Hamworthy - to receive the Sunderlands on RAAF 461 Squadron, followed by the PBY Consolidated Catalinas on RAF 210 Squadron…famed as the Catalina Squadron.

What Tasks do Friends of PFBC undertake, and what benefits do Friends receive ?

> Friends of PFBC is founded to support through Tasks the work of the Charity

> Friends get involved with the work of PFBC and to promote its wide range of  activities:~ from the collecting of Memories of those who were involved with Flying Boats and Seaplanes, through to the contact with Colleges and Schools.

> Friends are able to attend PFBC’s many Celebrations and various other Events also enjoy their own Meetings & Socials; as well as their Annual get-together.

> Friends receive a Friends Newsletter on a regular basis - at least 3 times a year (along with 3 Newsletters from the Trustees) which detail the Projects of PFBC and list meetings.  These also carry historical articles and photographs of Poole, the Flying Boats & Seaplanes, and related activities.

So we hope that you will consider joining Friends of PFBC.
